At TRASHËGIMIA, we are dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich Albanian culture and heritage in Bristol, United Kingdom. Founded by Claudia Ndreu and Adriana Pecmarkaj, our organization has grown to have more than 200 members and is servicing people of all ages and social settings. We aim to unite the Albanian Community in the South West of UK, share our beautiful culture and keep our heritage alive while offering support to our community on different fronts.
Our Mission
Trashëgimia (The Albanian Heritage) is the only community organization that provides a range of services that work toward the needs of the Albanian community in Bristol and surrounding areas.
We offer a range of services to support our community:
- provide help and support to the non-English speaking Albanians with weekly English classes in order to integrate and become independent;
- offer Albanian lessons to Albanian kids born and raised in the United Kingdom in order to inherit our culture, traditions and values and keep our heritage alive;
- create a safe space for mothers and kids to share their experiences and connect with other members;
- provide immigration advice
- offer employment and career guidance,
- provide mental health and well being awareness;
- assist the Albanian Community with translations and interpreting services when needed
- organize events, activities and shows on the Albanian National holidays, celebrations and festivals to unite the community;
- collaborate with charities and other community organizations (such as Mothers for Mothers, Bristol Hospitality, Boloh Helpline, Hope: Asylum Seekers & Refugee Trauma Service, Bristol Hospitality and more) in order to offer additional support;
- bring the opportunity to make new connections, socialize and prevent isolation;
- expand the knowledge of parents in relation to child development;
- promote diversity and equality within the community
Twice a month we meet with mothers and children under 5 at IKEA Restaurant, Bristol, BS5 6XX - Wednesdays from 11am to 1pm - for career guidance, to discuss about mental health, immigration advice and organize activities for under 5s for them to get acquainted with the Albanian Language through songs and games. Cooperating with different organizations, we organize regular sessions where you can get free advice on different issues and services offered in your area. To keep it interesting, we also offer courses for art and crafts, cooking and more! `
Every Saturday you can find us at St Nicholas of Tolentino RC Church, Lawfords Gate, St Jude's, Bristol BS5 0RE - from 1pm to 3pm.
For the first hour we teach Albanian and English classes.
Albanian classes are open to anyone willing to learn our beautiful language. The only requirement is being able to read and write (therefore only 5+ years old are accepted) - with Adriana Pecmarkaj.
English classes have the same requirements and are suitable for adults and children that either want to learn or improve their English to better communicate and integrate in the British society - with Claudia Ndreu.
Career and immigration guidance will be provided on weekends (if requested) for members not able to join our sessions on Wednesday.
The only thing you will need to bring are a notebook and a pen (if you need us to provide it for you, please contact us).
The second hour will be dedicated to learning Albanian traditional dances, poetry and organizing shows for our events.
Anyone is welcome!
